The Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) Disciplinary Committee (DC) came down hard on AmaZulu, Marumo Gallants and Royal AM with large fines totalling nearly R3 million.
But a R200,000 fine from the PSL’s DC will not keep AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy from having a go at poor officiating in the league.
On Tuesday McCarthy was fined for an aggressive post-match comment regarding the match referee Thando Ndzandzeka.
McCarthy called Ndzandzeka’s performance “shameful” on 14 September when Usuthu were held by SuperSport United to a goalless draw in a DStv Premiership match in Durban.
He is expected to pay R50,000 immediately with the rest being suspended until further investigation – but with the McCarthy we know, the suspended fine could come into play before the end of the 24-month suspension period.
An angry McCarthy never holds back when things aren’t going his way but unfortunately his comments don’t always affect only him.
Usuthu were also fined for what the DC described as: “Failing to keep their man in check, despite DC warnings in the past.”
The DC also came down hard on AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants after their recent match was aborted and replayed the following day.
Both teams were held accountable for the debacle following a clash of jersey colours. Normally, in the case of a clash of colours, the visiting team will change into their away strip.
The two will each pay a fine of R500,000 for wearing an almost identical kit. In addition, they will share the costs of replaying the match.
Royal AM also came in for some punishment after last month’s flaunting of cash in front of live media following their 2-1 win over Maritzburg United.
Club owner Shauwn Mkhize and the chairman Andile Mpisane were seen flashing cash on the field trying to pay players bonuses.
They were fined R1.65 million by the PSL after pleading guilty.
