South Africa sealed a stunning 2-0 series victory over India, smashing the hosts by 408 runs in Guwahati on Wednesday — their biggest win on Indian soil and second-highest by runs ever.
Simon Harmer was unstoppable, claiming 6-37 as India crumbled to 140 chasing an impossible 549.
Aiden Markram added spectacle, snatching nine catches in the slips (a world record for a non-keeper).
India’s resistance folded fast on Day 5: Harmer’s spin wizardry (17 wickets in 2 tests) paired with Markram’s catches ended hopes.
Rishabh Pant (13) flashed briefly, Ravindra Jadeja (54) fought hard, but it was never enough.
Marco Jansen (6-48, 93 off 91 balls) took the player of the match award, while Harmer was named player of the series (8-51, 9-101).
This marks South Africa’s second 2-0 sweep in India and first in 25 years. It was a statement win; and with the one-day series beginning soon, the Proteas will certainly be eyeing even more.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return to the Indian team for the 50-over format, with the first of three ODIs kicking off in Ranchi at 10am on Sunday. All the action will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
