Before he died, Presley Chweneyagae made peace with his son. The Tsotsi star passed away recently, but not before rebuilding his bond with his eldest son, Siyabulela Somfula.
In 2023, Presley made headlines when his former partner, Alleta Somfula, accused him of neglecting their child. She said they met in 2005, the same year he flew to the United States for the Oscars.
When Presley returned from America, Alleta told him she was pregnant. A DNA test later confirmed that Siyabulela was his son.
Alleta claimed the actor did very little to help over the years. She said he only gave her R1,000 at one point, and not much else, Briefly reported.
But in the months before Presley died, he and Siyabulela fixed their relationship. They grew close and shared a strong bond, according to people close to the family.
Siyabulela attended his father’s funeral and even took part in the proceedings.
The funeral was an emotional one. Presley’s wife, Charlaine Kirk, stood alongside Siyabulela and Presley’s other sons, Preston and Ashton, as they said their goodbyes.
Actress Tsholo Matshaba read the obituary. She said Presley is survived by his wife and three sons.
Many saw Siyabulela’s presence as proof that the family had healed old wounds.
During the burial, Charlaine wept as Presley’s coffin was lowered into the ground. The coffin briefly got stuck, and some saw it as a spiritual sign that Presley was not ready to go.
