It is still early days in the DStv Premiership campaign but Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are struggling to find a footing.

Only four matches have come and gone but what is already evident is a pattern of inconsistency from the reigning champions and the two Soweto giants.

Chiefs beat in-form rookies Richards Bay FC 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

It was the Natal Rich Boys’ first defeat and Chiefs supporters applauded their team for their bravery after they were reduced to 10 men early in the first half. Midfielder Yusuf Maart was sent off for a professional foul. His teammates managed a victory after being humiliated by Sundowns in their previous outing.

Defending champions Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw by Sekhukhune United. The Brazilians were expected to continue where they left off against Chiefs but Sekhukhune had other plans.

Pirates were also held to a goalless draw on Sunday by SuperSport United.

The Buccaneers went into the match following a 1-0 win over Royal AM during the week.

In the end points were shared, with Matsatsantsa collecting their second point after four matches.

To start the weekend, AmaZulu defeated Swallows 3-2 to continue their good start of the campaign. They became the first team to reach double figures with 10 points and so far they are the only team that has won all three matches.

Match-day five starts on Tuesday with three teams still searching for their first win.

Bottom of the table Cape Town City, Golden Arrows and Matsatsantsa are yet to win, while Usuthu, TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch are the only teams undefeated thus far.
