Port St John’s cows enjoy sea breeze

Second beach in Port St John’s on the Wild Coast in Eastern Cape is known for being one of the deadliest beaches in the world because of shark attacks.

But the locals’ experience of the beach is worlds apart from how it is perceived by tourists. While people enjoy the sea breeze, cows can be seen relaxing on the shoreline.

Local Zukile Mgoduka told Scrolla.Africa that when he first visited the beach, he nearly ran away when he spotted the sea-loving cows trotting along the shore.

“I didn’t feel safe because we all know cows like chasing people, but these are different. Staying next to the beach made them calm and they didn’t bother anyone,” Mgoduka said.

He said he didn’t even know that cows could walk on beach sand. “These are the coolest cows I have ever seen, sitting beside the beach enjoying the sea breeze.

“I am sure they can make a great tasty steak because they are happy cows,” he joked.

Luthando Homoyi said the cows hardly get sick.

“They are always fresh and strong and don’t get sick, so the beach walk works well for these cows. They only eat the grass next to the beach because it tastes different from the grass in the villages and it’s always green.”

“Watching them is amazing. They don’t do anything, they watch the waves, and you can tell they enjoy it. Even though their skin is different, they are healthy,”.
