- Pope Francis is getting oxygen and blood in the hospital while fighting a serious chest infection.
- The 88-year-old church leader sent a special thank you to children who drew pictures for him.
Millions of Catholics are praying for Pope Francis, who is in hospital in Rome.
The Vatican says the 88-year-old church leader has a severe chest infection and needs extra oxygen to help him breathe.
Doctors at Gemelli Hospital say the Pope experienced breathing difficulties similar to asthma on Sunday. They are also worried about his kidneys not functioning properly.
“The Pope also required blood transfusions,” the Vatican said.
“He remains alert and spent the day in an armchair, although he is in more pain than yesterday.”
The Pope sent a message on social media platform X to thank people for their support.
“I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!”
Outside the hospital, hundreds of young people gathered to pray for the Pope to get better.
Pope Francis has made many changes in how the Roman Catholic Church thinks about things. While he hasn’t said yes to gay marriage, he has spoken up for LGBTQ+ people’s rights. He also speaks about addressing climate change, helping poor people, and treating immigrants better.
