Pirates ready for battle with African champions

Orlando Pirates face their biggest test yet when they host Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

They face the defending champions, Al Ahly, who top the group after beating Stade d’Abidjan 4-2.

The Buccaneers started their Group C campaign well, beating CR Belouizdad 2-1 in Algeria last week. However, they then lost their first PSL match of the season to Stellenbosch.

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says his team is up for the challenge.

“We’re going to every game to win,” he told the media. “We are going to be tested at a very high level, and we will face the week with a good attitude and motivation to offer a good performance on Saturday here against Al Ahly.”

The Egyptian team arrives with Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau, who is struggling to find form. Tau played just 14 minutes in Al Ahly’s last match.

He might be hoping to follow Khanyisa Mayo’s example – Mayo ended his goal drought by scoring against Pirates for Belouizdad.

Al Ahly will be without injured goalkeeper Mostafa Shobier, meaning Mohamed El Shenawy is likely to start.
