Orlando Pirates clinched their first PSL title in 14 years after a 2-0 win over Orbit College at Mbombela Stadium on the final day, ending Mamelodi Sundowns’ eight-year reign.
A bizarre first-half stoppage-time own goal from Sabelo Nkomo gave the Buccaneers the lead when he punched a corner into his own net.
Ndumiso Ngiba’s misjudged lob over his keeper in the 50th minute then gifted Yanela Mbuthuma the second as Pirates finished one point clear of Sundowns.
Orbit College were automatically relegated after the defeat, while Magesi escaped the drop on goal difference following a 1-0 win over Richards Bay thanks to Mcedi Vandala’s penalty.
Kaizer Chiefs ended their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Chippa United, Sammy Seabi scoring the winner as Brandon Truter’s Chilli Boys secured safety in 13th.
AmaZulu took fourth with a 1-0 derby win over Durban City via Nkosikhona Radebe’s 81st-minute strike, ensuring MTN 8 football for the Citizens in eighth.
Sekhukhune United drew 2-2 with Siwelele to finish fifth, while Golden Arrows ended sixth after a 0-0 draw with TS Galaxy.
Stellenbosch missed out on the top eight after a goalless draw with Marumo Gallants, who avoided the relegation playoff by a single point.
