Pirates coach slapped with a warning ahead of final

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has been hit with a warning letter by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for his remarks aimed at Simba in April.

Ncikazi was furious by what he called the inhumane treatment his team received in Tanzania last month in the CAF Confederations Cup semi-final first leg and sent a complaint to CAF.

“CAF has studied the complaint in question as well as the response received by Orlando Pirates club. The CAF disciplinary board has issued a warning letter to Mr Mandla Ncikazi regarding his comments.”

CAF is yet to issue a date on when Ncikazi is likely to face the disciplinary board.

He said Simba should be ashamed of themselves as he complained about the treatment they got from the stadium, the hotel and the airport.

“Why do you do this as Africans to other Africans?” said Ncikazi.

“Are we going to improve football on the continent? We should all be proud that Simba won but they did not win. The referee gave them the win.”

The former Golden Arrows mentor will have to tread carefully when Buccaneers face Moroccan RS Berkane in the Confederations Cup final on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Nigeria at 8pm.

Ncikazi will need to watch what he says in this match to avoid being in more trouble with the African football governing body.

The Buccaneers will be looking to make history by becoming the first South African team to lift the Confederations Cup trophy.

Meanwhile, CAF have announced that the final on Friday will be officiated by Janny Sikazwe.

The Zambian made headlines during the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) held in Cameroon early this year when he blew his final whistle twice before full-time in a match between Mali and Tunisia.
