The West Indies capped off their tour with a six-run DLS victory over South Africa in the third T20 international at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
Lightning delayed the start by over an hour, but the visitors posted 114/3 from 10 overs, with Shai Hope (48) and Shimron Hetmyer (48) starring on what was an exhilarating Pink Day spectacle.
Hetmyer’s explosive innings featured six sixes, while Hope hit three fours and four sixes.
In a tense chase, with the adjusted target of 125 off ten overs in their sights, South Africa’s hopes were dashed by brilliant bowling from the Windies.
Gudakesh Motie (3/17) and Akeal Hosein (1/25) restricted the Proteas to 118/6, with Dewald Brevis’ (17) dismissal proving a turning point.
Jason Smith’s 26 off 10 balls kept SA’s hopes of a whitewash alive, but Shamar Joseph’s brilliant yorker sealed the win for the Windies.
The visitors held their nerve to secure a consolation, ending their tour on a high note. The the result ensured they will have some momentum heading into the T20 World Cup in February.
