➤ If ever there was a time to watch a Formula One Grand Prix, it would be this weekend.
Expect to see a massive crowd of the most passionate fans dressed in orange as this is Max Verstappen’s home race at the Zandvoort circuit in Holland.
Proof of the fans’ loyalty to the homeboy is in the fact that they’ve changed the speed limits in Zandvoort. The speed limit was 30mph, but it has been increased to 33mph – the number Verstappen uses when racing.
Verstappen is only three points behind Lewis Hamilton in what has already been one of the most exciting championships in many years. Hamilton has won the last four Formula One championships, but the young Dutch driver looks willing to do whatever it takes to prevent him from claiming it a fifth time.
As if the fans will not be pumped enough for the Grand Prix, Formula One will return to the city of Zandvoort for the first time in 36 years.
Lights out is set for 3pm on Sunday.
➤ Hugo Broos and his Bafana Bafana side kick-off their 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe on Friday in what will be the Belgian manager’s first game in charge of the side. This is the first match on the road to his specific mandate to get Bafana Bafana back into the next FIFA Soccer World Cup.
The game will kick-off at 3pm at the Harare National Sports Stadium in Zimbabwe. This is a must win for the South African side who have their eyes set on qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2002.
➤ Six South African athletes will compete on Friday at both the aquatics centre as well as the Olympic track during this, the final week of the Paralympics.
Daniel du Plessis and Tebogo Mofokeng will compete in the men’s 400m T62 final at 7.30pm.
Ntando Mahlangu will also be gunning for gold in the men’s 200m T61 final at 7.40 pm on Friday as South Africa look to add to their four medals thus far.
Despite only winning four medals with the possibility of winning seven, a far cry from the 17 won in Rio 2016, the South African Paralympians have been a beacon of hope for all impaired athletes in proving that anything is possible.

➤ The Rugby Championship gets underway again after being hit by issues around the Covid-19 virus. The All Blacks will take on the Wallabies on Sunday at 8am at the Optus Stadium in Australia. The Wallabies will be looking for revenge after being thumped 57-22 in the last encounter between the two sides.
