An Ekurhuleni pensioner escaped from the clutches of her rapist neighbour on Wednesday night.
The 63-year-old from Tsakani told Scrolla.Africa that she was sleeping when she heard her door forced open and soon after saw the suspect walking into her bedroom.
The suspect was allegedly wearing a mask but the pensioner could recognise his voice and structure.
“He told me that he is only going to have five rounds of sex with me and would leave as soon as he is done,” the victim, who cannot be named, told Scrolla.Africa.
“I negotiated with him to use protection as I am HIV positive and taking treatment but he told me that is not a problem since he is also on treatment,” she said.
“He continued to repeatedly rape me and after his third round I asked him to go fetch a towel from the next room and I ran to hide in the outside shack.
She said she could see the suspect searching for her while she was hiding in the dark but eventually he decided to leave.
When she reached out for help, one of her neighbours suggested that they report the matter to the suspect’s family.
The family offered to replace the damaged door, install burglar bars and pay for the damages in exchange for her not opening a case.
“I refused the offer as the suspect didn’t show any remorse and when they asked him why he raped me, he only said he was sorry,” she said.
Colonel Goodall Khumbulani Mbatha confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Saturday after the victim opened a case with the police. He will appear before the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court soon.
