The Paris 2024 Olympics is still two years away, but there are already concerns that the city may not be able to host the event.

Olympic organisers are said to be worried about security, finances, venues and staff that could jeopardise the games.

French President Emmanuel Macron has personally invested in ensuring the success of the games.

Organisers of the event have promised to make the event “the most sober, participative and sustainable” ever seen.

However reports from France suggest that not all is going to plan.

The event is expected to bring in over nine  million fans to the country along with 25,000 journalists and 14,000 competitors from 206 countries.

The main concern is security. The opening ceremony, set for 26 July 2024, is set to feature a high-risk waterborne showcase where athletes will sail down the Seine in 162 open-topped boats.

The ceremony is said to have already raised security concerns amongst organisers and the police, according to Le Monde.

Arrangements have been made such as having police divers, mine clearance teams, special forces and air space control due to the threat of drone attacks, according to Le Journal du Dimanche.

Budget concerns have been raised as well following an audit report being circulated around the media.

“Budgets are being exceeded pretty much everywhere,” one official told Le Monde.

Several venues are said to be costing more than what was budgeted for creating several financial concerns.

Staffing concerns have also been brought up as the Olympics battle to hire enough people to work the event.

“There simply aren’t enough people,” said former General Confederation of Labour (CGT) trade union federation boss Bernard Thibault.

“These problems need to be addressed urgently and immediately,” he said.
