Pakistan victorious at last

Pakistan picked up a seven wicket win over Canada in New York on Tuesday to finally open their account in the ICC T20 World Cup.

A successful run chase, after another low target, was vital for Pakistan to put their first points on the board.

A positive result was even more important after Sunday’s defeat to rivals India; and Mohammed Amir and the bowlers in green ensured that would be the case in the Big Apple, this time.

Man of the match Amir took 2/13 in his four overs with the Canadians restricted to 106/7 in their 20.

Aaron Johnson top scored with 52 off 44, but Saad Bin Zafar’s side would have known from interval that they were a good 10 to 15 runs short on the day.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam learnt their  lesson from Sunday; keeping their composure and not taking any risks in the run chase.

Rizwan’s unbeaten 53 in as many balls was enough to guide his side home as Babar departed just before the winning runs.

The result keeps Pakistan in the tournament with a must-win game against Ireland and some reliance on other games still awaiting them if they are to qualify for the super eights.
