Pakistan’s spinners were instrumental in securing a convincing seven-wicket victory over the Proteas in the third and deciding one-day international at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Saturday.
The hosts’ spin trio restricted South Africa to just 143 in 37.5 overs, with Abrar Ahmed claiming a career-best 4-27.
Abrar was well supported by left-armers Salman Agha and Mohammad Nawaz, who claimed two wickets each.
Opener Saim Ayub’s composed innings of 77 from 70 balls laid the foundation for Pakistan’s comfortable chase, which was completed in just 25.1 overs.
The win marked Pakistan’s first series victory against South Africa on home soil in five attempts, and they were excellent value for their long-awaited success.
Quinton de Kock’s 53 was the only highlight for South Africa on the day, as they struggled to cope with the spin.
The Proteas’ collapse was swift, with five wickets falling for just 13 runs in the middle.
South Africa’s batsmen failed to adapt to the dry, well-used pitch, and the spinners took advantage. Pakistan’s victory sets them up for a strong finish to the year, while South Africa will look to regroup ahead of their upcoming tour of India.
