Overseas clubs out to buy Mzansi footballers

The next player transfer window will soon be open, which could prove an exciting time.

Watching player movements between clubs and leagues worldwide is pure entertainment. 

Already, transfer rumours are dominating headlines during this period, when some league races are close to concluding, and epic battles are being witnessed.

It is always refreshing to hear some PSL players being linked with overseas clubs, especially big European leagues.

The most exciting rumour is AFC Bournemouth’s reported interest in Teboho Mokoena of Mamelodi Sundowns.

As Lyle Foster is dropping to the Championship with Burnley – unless he gets signed by a Premier League club – there will likely be no South African player in that league.

Now that Mokoena is a transfer target of The Cherries, there is hope a local player will be in the Premier League.

Mokoena is a top performer; undoubtedly, he can fit at Bournemouth.

What makes this move promising is that talks between Sundowns for a new contract are dragging on and becoming complicated, as his agent admitted. 

A new Masandawana deal will see his market value shoot up, which might discourage his suitors.

The 27-year-old still has two years left on his Sundowns contract.

Also linked with a move to Europe is Orlando Pirates wonderkid Relebohile Mofokeng, whose meteoric rise is impressive.

Glasgow Rangers and Austrian giant Red Bull Salzburg are keen on Mofokeng, who underwent unsuccessful trials at Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers last October.

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are also said to be interested in him, but playing in Scotland would place him near England, while in Austria, he would be close to the Bundesliga.

If an overseas transfer materialises, it would be a career-changing move for the 19-year-old.

Mofokeng’s Pirates teammate Tshegofatso Mabasa has been linked with Romanian side FCSB, while Shandre Campbell’s agent, Mike Makaab, said SuperSport United are only entertaining European offers for the 18-year-old.
