As the country heads into a third wave of Covid-19 infections, 3,065 individuals are currently being treated with the virus in hospitals in Gauteng alone.
The province recorded 2,961 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, with the entire country recording 5,450. This means that over half of the country’s new cases have occurred in Gauteng.
The total confirmed cases in the province now sits at 471,613. Of these, 11,404 individuals have succumbed to Covid-19 thus far.
In terms of the vaccine rollout in the province, 346,914 doses have been administered with 488,264 individuals registered to receive the vaccine on the nation’s Electronic Vaccination Data System.
On Saturday 5 June, 97 people died due to Covid-19-related illness, with the nation’s seven-day average currently sitting at 81 deaths per day.
The total number of cases in the country has reached 1.69 million, with 1.57 million recoveries and a total of 56,929 deaths caused by Covid-19.
