Dr Makhosi Khoza, the chairperson of ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal, has been praying she’ll be elected mayor of EThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.
So she turned to an unlikely man for help, and asked Bishop Vusi Dube of eThekwini Community Church (ECC) to pray for her too.
Dube is an MPL for the ANC, Khoza’s former party. She is the former chief whip of the ANC in KZN and chairperson of Scopa.
But Dube turned her down and said his prayers won’t help her become a mayor.
Dube told Scrolla.Africa that even though everyone is welcome in his church, this does not mean that everyone is entitled to his prayers – especially those with political ambitions.
“Dr Khoza will not get the position of the mayor just because I prayed for her, but it’s the voters who will decide. She may go to Shembe, Methodist, ZCC or any church but it’s only voters who will decide,” he said.
Ironically, Bishop Dube was appointed to replace Dr Khoza as the ANC chief whip after she resigned to pursue her career in the private sector.
Khoza believes that her track record in fighting corruption within the ANC while she was still an MP under Jacob Zuma’s administration will help her to win the hearts of eThekwini voters.
