Sandile Ngobese is shaking up social media by showing off Zulu culture. The young rural man from Vumankala village in Nquthu went to the United States of America to work as a chef in South Carolina.

While working overseas, Ngobese used his love for Zulu culture to showcase the lifestyle of Amabhinca. He deliberately posted videos from the busy streets of Time Square.

The move turned Ngobese into a social media sensation. Promoters now hire him for different products, and he is famous for his cultural commentary on TikTok under the name Mfanomzulu.

He went overseas while he was studying at the Durban University of Technology. He stayed there for six months before returning to South Africa to complete his studies. After that, he went back to continue his chef job.

His family was very scared when he first left. They thought someone might kill him or that he would get involved in drug trafficking. Ngobese filmed his videos in Time Square to prove to his family that he was safe. He also wanted to show African traditions to the world.

“It really worked for me and I am calling on young people to take such opportunities and forget the fear,” Ngobese said.

Ngobese recently returned home to South Africa because his contract ended. He has opened his own cooking business. He can go back to America anytime because renewing the contract depends on him.

Ngobese also takes part in many art industry activities. He urges other young people from rural areas to look for work opportunities in other countries to help themselves grow.
