It’s happened at last!
Through a suspension letter dated 3 May, signed by his deputy Jessie Duarte, ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule is suspended with pay and barred from making any public statements.
His suspension comes days before the crucial NEC meeting scheduled for the weekend. It is unclear whether he would still be part of the meeting and in what capacity he would attend.
On Monday, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) decided that all members facing corruption, fraud and other serious charges must step aside or be suspended.
A month ago they were given 30 days to step aside and that period ended last Friday.
Magashule had been adamant he would not voluntarily step aside, daring the ANC to suspend him.
Magashule is facing charges relating to the R255 million asbestos tender issued when he was still premier of the Free State.
His close aides told Scrolla.Africa that he would appeal the suspension.
This is a developing story.
