Alexandra’s very own “uMama weKwaito”, professionally known as Nkiyase, has high hopes for the new music video for her song “Ziyawa” after releasing the clean visuals on 26 October.
The track also features Mercy Pakela, whose bubbly presence perfectly complements Nkiyase’s character.
Nkiyase, who was a close friend of the late Mshoza – known as the kwaito music queen – taps into amapiano rhythm and drums, while carrying on the kwaito legacy on the vocals.
Which was easy to perfect as the song was produced by Joe Nina, who began his career in the 1990s and became one of the biggest artists to have ever made it in Mzansi before taking a tough fall after a car accident in 2001.
But the music video, which features Mercy Pakela and Nkiyase playing dress up while Joe Nina plays the piano in another frame, is very far from reaching the one million views that the artists are hoping for.
Having premiered more than a week ago, the music video for “Ziyawa” still holds just over 600 views on YouTube.
Joe Nina, the singer of the mid-1990s hits “Phuma Kimi” and “Maria Podesta”, previously revealed to Scrolla.Africa he returned to music during the 2020 lockdown, after turning one of his bedrooms in his KwaThema home in Johannesburg into a recording studio.
