Nine police officers injured as their vehicle overturns

Nine police officers were injured after the Nyala they were travelling in overturned on the N1 near the Okavango bridge facing in the direction of Paarl.

Two of the officers were seriously injured and were airlifted to medical facilities.

All nine are attached to the public-order policing unit in Faure in the Western Cape.

Reports suggest that the accident was caused after the Nyala suddenly braked.

The injured officers were treated on the scene and transported to nearby hospitals thereafter.

Western Cape provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk told News24 that a case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Kraaifontein Police Station for investigation.

The accident occurred during peak-hour traffic but no other vehicles were involved.
