The Nigerian government banned Twitter on Friday.
The ban was made in an announcement on…..Twitter.
The media aide for the Ministry of Information and Culture, Segun Adeyemi, said on Twitter: “The Federal Government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.”
The reason, the government statement said, was “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
The announcement followed a decision by Twitter to delete tweets by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in which he threatened genocide against the Igbo-dominated South-East.
