Nigeria’s football captain, William Troost-Ekong, made history in international sports by wearing sustainably made football boots in Nigeria’s first Afcon game against Equatorial Guinea at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe.
The Sokito boots, custom-designed for Troost-Ekong, feature a vibrant design that reflects Nigeria’s landscape and includes the green colour of the team’s iconic kit.
The boots are made from eco-friendly materials like bamboo, corn waste, and sugarcane.
The soles display detailed designs inspired by the land surfaces.
Troost-Ekong shared his pleasure in participating in the development of these boots and praised their nature-inspired design and tribute to Nigeria.
Jake Hardy, the founder of Sokito, highlighted Troost-Ekong’s commitment to sustainability in football, 90Min reported.
Troost-Ekong is among 16 professional footballers who invested in Sokito in 2023, joining others like Dominic Bernard, John Bostock, and Tom Cleverley who are contributing to the eco-friendly initiative in sports.
Discussing his investment, Troost-Ekong emphasised the mixing of his values with the brand.
Sokito, apart from creating sustainable products, also works on offsetting CO2 emissions, a move that resonates with Troost-Ekong’s environmental concerns.
Nigeria’s Afcon opener against Equatorial Guinea ended in a 1-1 draw.
