- New musician Khutsi Sdumane claims Dr Malinga released his unreleased song without giving him credit.
- The dispute started after Khutsi met Dr Malinga at his lodge last year and shared his music with him.
A rising musician says popular singer Dr Malinga stole his song and released it as his own.
Khutsi Sdumane met Dr Malinga at his lodge in September 2024. During their meeting, Khutsi told Dr Malinga how much he liked his hit song Siyophumelela.
Khutsi also played his own unreleased song, Mo Fe Chelete, which he wrote in a style similar to Dr Malinga’s music.
Months later, Khutsi was surprised to hear that Dr Malinga had put out a song that sounded just like his unreleased track.
“I don’t understand how he got my song when I hadn’t even released it yet,” Khutsi said.
“I looked up to him as a big artist. It hurts that he didn’t give me any credit.”
To back up his claim, Khutsi shared both songs with ZiMoja for comparison.
He says he hoped Dr Malinga would acknowledge him, since he is a veteran in the music industry. Instead, Dr Malinga went ahead and released the song without mentioning him.
When contacted for comment, Dr Malinga was upset. “Please respect me, I don’t work for newspapers. I am from gigs, and you’re busy calling me,” he said.
