Co-CEO Ted Sarandos says this move will make films and programs cheaper and of better quality.
The AI-powered tools helped achieve a building collapse scene 10 times faster than traditional VFX methods. This reduced costs, making the show feasible within its budget.
Sarandos emphasizes that AI aids creators, not replaces them, enhancing storytelling possibilities.
“We remain convinced that AI represents an incredible opportunity to help creators make films and series better, not just cheaper,” he said per The Guardian.
“Using AI-powered tools, they were able to achieve an amazing result with remarkable speed and, in fact, that VFX sequence was completed 10 times faster than it could have been completed with traditional VFX tools and workflows.”
The move comes after Netflix reported $11 billion revenue, a 16% year-on-year increase, boosted by hits like Squid Game.
The company’s advertisement business is also growing, expected to roughly double in size. Sarandos added that there should be no fears of any job cuts, highlighting AI’s role in supporting creators. This milestone marks another of Netflix’s innovative approaches to content production.
