Naledi Aphiwe finally meets Chris Brown

A budding KZN singer could not believe her eyes when she met her international idol – and that on her birthday!

Durban-born Naledi Aphiwe had the opportunity to meet R&B legend Chris Brown in person on 15 December during his second and final performance in South Africa at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium.

Social media pages were abuzz with many asking if Naledi will be on stage with Chris Brown or even meet the American artist.

Some were even making nasty comments that she had been snubbed by Brown and his entourage as there was no mention on the US singer’s itinerary about meeting Naledi.

Aphiwe became an instant star after a video of her singing in a classroom caught the attention of Chris Brown.

Naledi posted pictures of herself and Breezy on Instagram captioned: “He just said he appreciates me – thank you so much Breezy for everything, appreciate you too.

“I had the best birthday ever.”

He sampled and credited her voice in his song Shooter from the album 11:11

The song tackles the serious issue of child sexual abuse in South Africa.

In an interview with TshisaLIVE, Naledi shared how she plans to use the R53,580 she earned from the collaboration.

“First, I want to buy a new phone so I can carry on making content and push my music. I also want to go to my mom’s grave to fix it for Thanksgiving since we weren’t able to do things the way we wanted when we buried her last year,” she said then.

Metro FM praised her achievement, posting: “From KZN to the World. US singer @chrisbrownofficial liked the voice of Durban-born singer Naledi Aphiwe so much that he sampled AND credited her on his new song #Shooter.

“The timing couldn’t have been more important as it highlights child abuse ahead of 16 days of Activism of no violence against women and children.”
