Mzansi Magic has denied claims of a food poisoning incident on the set of the popular drama series Shaka iLembe, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of two crew members.
In a statement shared with TshisaLIVE, the network confirmed the death of one crew member but clarified that it was not due to food poisoning.
“Mzansi Magic can confirm that there was no food poisoning on the set of Shaka iLembe,” the statement read.
“The makeup artist in question was employed on the set for only one and a half days. On her second day, she reported feeling weak with flu-like symptoms.
“She was promptly sent to see the medic, and her next of kin was contacted to collect her. Regrettably, her condition worsened, and she passed away three days later at home.”
The network offered their condolences: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”
Mzansi Magic has not yet addressed the death of the second crew member.
Despite these tragic events, the production of Shaka iLembe continues. Season 2 is set to launch in 2025, promising new stars, characters, and plot lines.
The show, led by actress Nomzamo Mbatha, had a successful opening season.
