  • South African artists have now won a total of 32 Grammy Awards.

Johannesburg flute player Wouter Kellerman has struck gold again, winning his third Grammy Award at the world’s biggest music awards show.

Kellerman, dressed in a gold outfit by South African designer Gert-Johan Coetzee, thanked his fellow musicians and business partner at the ceremony.

“Thank you, Chandrika, thank you, Eru, all the musicians who were on the album. Big thank you to Tholsi Pillay, my best friend and business partner, and then, most importantly, to all of you. Music connects, and I am very grateful to share this moment with you,” he said.

The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah, brought more glory to South African music.

Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Bertha Peace Mabe, who was at the event in Los Angeles, praised South African musicians for their global success.

“Our artists continue to make waves on the global stage, with 12 SA musicians winning a total of 32 Grammy Awards. Wouter Kellerman has won three Grammys, including for Bayethe and Winds of Samsara, and has brought one more home for us tonight,” she said, TimesLIVE reported.

Mabe said South African music keeps growing internationally, mixing traditional sounds with new styles like amapiano, Afropop, and house music.

She added that they want to make South Africa even bigger in world music and are looking at Grammy partnerships for 2026.

Kellerman’s previous Grammy wins were for his albums Bayethe and Winds of Samsara.
