Mzansi awaits Reason’s Amapiano album under new alias “Sizwe Alakine”

Reason, who first found success as a hip-hop artist, is reviving and reinventing his music career after diving head-first into Amapiano under a new name: Sizwe Alakine.

After releasing two singles, “Khanda Shisa” featuring DJ Maphorisa and “Thel’induku” featuring Visca, Reason has announced he is also working on a new Amapiano album for the festive season with leading Amapiano hit makers.

Reason, whose real name is Sizwe Moeketsi Moniker, is also rumoured to be the ghost writer for DJ Maphorisa’s more vocal alter ego Madumane, having previously written for other artists in the industry.

On MacG’s Podcast and Chill, Reason neither confirmed nor denied the rumours of writing for Maphorisa.

The 34-year-old follows the career trajectory of rapper Cassper Nyovest, who also released a 10-track amapiano album this year titled Sweet and Short 2.0.

Even though Reason said he is not changing his name completely to Sizwe Alakine, other rappers in Mzansi have changed their industry names before. Tumi Molekane, for example, changed his name to Stogie T when he hopped on the new wave of hip hop.

Zingah, who was previously called Smashis, also successfully reinvented his artistry after the Cashtime Fam disbanded. Meanwhile, DJ Themba changed his stage name from DJ Euphonik in 2017.

“Don’t be a typecast individual,” said the rebranded Sizwe Alakine, who has not dropped hip hop completely. He recently shared a new song by Ms Nthabi titled “3rd Eye” on which he featured as Reason.
