A 39-year-old single mother from the Eastern Cape runs a business making posters and CVs from her home.
She charges R50 per poster and R40 per CV. Customers contact her on social media from all provinces.
“While I was still looking for a job I realised that people struggle to get money to do CVs and have money for transport to go to the mall. I saw a business opportunity and I tried it,” she said.
She uses a phone and laptop to work from home.
“My customers send their work on WhatsApp and when I am done I send it back to them either via WhatsApp or using an email,” she said.
In a bad month she makes five posters and five CVs. In a good month she makes double or more.
She switched from data to WiFi to save money.
“I was using more than R500 for data before but now I am using WiFi paying R400 a month,” she said.
Last year she bought school uniforms and Christmas clothes for her brother and child.
“To some people the money is small, but when you are good at saving you can do a lot of things. I will never stop doing it because I am not doing it for fun but to survive,” she said.
Her challenge is customers who don’t pay after getting their work.
“All businesses have challenges. I have customers who give me a hard time when it is time for them to pay. They come up with stories such as their banks cannot transfer R40,” she said.
“But I will keep pushing because my business is feeding my family and me.”
