- The uMkhonto weSizwe Party is said to be considering Ngobese-Zuma as its mayoral candidate for eThekwini in next year’s elections.
- Ngobese-Zuma denies any involvement with politics and says her main focus now is furthering her studies at university.
Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, the former Vuma FM presenter who recently lost her job, is being tipped as the next mayoral candidate for eThekwini by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.
Ngobese-Zuma is known for leading protests in Durban against undocumented foreigners receiving treatment in state hospitals. She has also clashed with the South African Human Rights Commission over the same issue.
She was recently fired by Vuma FM. Her final broadcast was last Thursday. Supporters say her outspoken views on undocumented foreigners caused her dismissal.
Ngobese-Zuma believes that her firing may have been influenced by KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane. However, she told Scrolla.Africa that she is not involved in politics and has not been approached by any party.
“This is the first time I’m hearing this. No political party has spoken to me. I’m focusing on continuing my studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I’m still waiting for them to approve my application,” she said.
Vuma FM denies that she was fired, saying her contract simply ended and that the station regularly updates its line-up.
In recent months, Ngobese-Zuma has taken a strong stance against the treatment of undocumented foreigners at government hospitals. She believes South African taxpayers are being burdened by foreign nationals whose governments refuse to take responsibility for their citizens.
She also accused the South African Human Rights Commission of ignoring the impact undocumented foreigners have on the country’s health system.
