MK demands cops probe member’s killing in Durban

By Sihle Mavuso

The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party in KwaZulu-Natal has demanded  that police investigate the killing of one of its members in Durban today.

Bongumusa Zungu was murdered in the shanty township of Mayville.

According to preliminary information obtained by Scrolla.Africa, he was shot from behind by an unknown man who later fled the scene.

“He was coming back from dropping his kids at school, and when he came back and while moving within the shacks, the gunman came from behind and shot him several times,” an eyewitness said.

It is not yet clear whether the motive behind his killing has to do with politics or whether he was a victim of the rampant crime in the area.

The head of elections for the MK in the province, Musa Mkhize, said: “We demand a full investigation into this matter so that we know why our member was killed.

“Last month, one of our members was burnt inside his house, hence we want the police to investigate this matter.”

He pointed out that political killings in the area were rife, and in the past, members of other political parties had been killed there.
