Spanish police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man, whose body was found inside a statue of a dinosaur on the outskirts of Barcelona.
Authorities were alerted of the incident when a father and his son noticed a foul smell coming from the stegosaurus model, which was located outside a disused cinema in a Barcelona suburb.
When they peered through a crack in the statue, they identified the outline of a human leg inside.
Firefighters were immediately called to the scene and cut a hole in the dinosaur to retrieve the body.
The body belonged to a man who had been reported missing by his family only a few hours before he was discovered.
The regional police force are not treating the death as suspicious.
“We found the body of a man inside the leg of this dinosaur statue. It’s an accidental death; there was no violence,” said a spokeswoman for the regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra.
It is thought that the man dropped his phone into the statue, which is made of papier-mâché, a material formed of layers of paper and glue.
He then forced his way in head first, and found himself unable to climb out or call for help.
The statue has since been removed from the square.
An autopsy is being performed to confirm the cause of death, according to the Latin Times.
