- Miss South Africa 2024 Mia le Roux, who made history as the first hard-of-hearing winner, has pulled out of Miss Universe due to health problems.
- She was already in Mexico preparing for the competition when she had to make the difficult decision to withdraw for health reasons.
South Africa will not be in this year’s Miss Universe after Mia le Roux had to pull out because of health problems.
Miss South Africa 2024, who made history as the first hard-of-hearing woman to win the crown, had already been in Mexico for two weeks preparing for the competition.
She was meant to compete in the finale on Sunday morning (South African time), but the Miss South Africa organisation announced on Friday morning that she had to withdraw.
“I am deeply thankful for the unwavering support I’ve received from South Africa during my Miss Universe journey. This decision was extremely difficult, given the dreams and expectations entrusted to me.
However, prioritising my health and recovery is essential so I can continue serving my country to the best of my ability,” Le Roux said in a statement.
The Miss South Africa organisation praised her for being brave during this tough time. They said her health comes first and that they will help her get better.
