TV star Minnie Dlamini says she had nothing to do with Kaya 959’s decision to fire DJ Sol Phenduka after he made nasty comments about her on Podcast and Chill with MacG.

Sol, who hosted the breakfast show with Sizwe Dhlomo, was suspended in August and later shown the door. Kaya 959 confirmed he was fired for making offensive comments about Minnie on the popular podcast earlier this year.

But Minnie says she was not involved in the station’s decision to sack him.

Speaking to News24, she said: “While I am not involved in Kaya 959’s internal decisions, I do appreciate that institutions are recognising the seriousness of the derogatory remarks that were made. My hope is that justice is served and that no other woman has to endure such treatment moving forward.”

She is still taking legal action against both Sol and podcast host MacG Mukwevho.

In July, Sunday World reported that Minnie had taken them to the Equality Court for hate speech, unfair discrimination and harassment. She is demanding R2.5-million in damages — R1-million for herself and R1.5-million to be donated to a women’s organisation.

“The matter is still pending, and we are still awaiting an official response through the proper legal channels,” she said.

Earlier this year, Minnie rejected MacG’s public apology, saying he wasn’t being sincere and that the apology was just to protect his show.

“An apology offered only after the damage is done and reputations are on the line is not a meaningful act of accountability,” she said.

It’s not the first time the podcast has taken a swipe at Minnie. Back in 2017, before she got married, MacG claimed that “no one in the industry would marry Minnie Dlamini” because of rumours about her private life.
