Twenty-four crime prevention wardens under training at Dunnottar Military Base in Ekurhuleni were injured when a military officer drove into their platoon on Friday.
The 36-year-old officer, who is based at the navy base in Pretoria, was not expected at the military base, and her presence there is unexplained.
A source at the scene told Scrolla.Africa that the driver seemed disoriented and even excited after causing the accident. “She was moved to a duty room after the accident, where she broke all the windows,” the source reported.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said Dunnottar police are investigating the incident as a case of reckless and negligent driving.
“At this stage, 24 members were injured and transported to hospital for medical attention. The suspect was released after consultation with the senior public prosecutor for further investigation. The docket will then go for a decision to Nigel Magistrate’s Court,” she said.
