  • Lebo Sonwabo Moleli Mniki, 35, vanished after entering Princeton Village Respublica in Midrand on 28 August at about 1am.
  • His family says police refused to open a missing person case and campus officials delayed giving them correct CCTV footage.

The family of a missing Midrand man say they are still waiting for answers months after he disappeared.

Lebo Sonwabo Moleli Mniki, 35, was last seen entering Princeton Village Respublica in Midrand at about 1am on 28 August. His girlfriend lives at the student residence.

A campus manager confirmed that Lebo entered the building. But there is no record of him leaving.

His sister, Vuyo Nyathi, said the family has asked many times for the security camera footage. “On 8 September officials gave us footage from the wrong date,” she said.

“Then they asked for four more days to give us the correct recordings.”

The family said they want to see the footage so they can understand what happened.

“We want that footage. We want Lebo’s body, dead or alive,” said Vuyo.

The family said their frustration grew when police at Douglasdale Police Station refused to open a missing person case.

They were told police could not help because Lebo is a wanted suspect.

Vendors near the residence told the family that people disappearing from the area is not unusual.

Vuyo said the family even met another parent who was searching for her missing son.

Lebo’s twin sisters and other residents now spend time outside the gates of Princeton Village holding signs demanding answers.

“People do not simply vanish. If they have nothing to hide, why is it so difficult to hand over the footage?” said Vuyo.

Lebo is about 1.7 metres tall with light brown eyes. He has a full tattoo on his right arm and a beard and moustache. He works as a store manager at H&M.
