Hoping to glide around Covid restrictions, a couple in India booked an entire flight and invited 160 guests to their wedding.
The wedding gave a whole new meaning to being walked down the aisle.
The happy couple from Madurai in southern India, however, have already run into some turbulence, as footage of the ceremony went viral and landed them in hot water.
India’s civil aviation authority has ordered an investigation.
“We have de-rostered the crew and directed the airline to lodge a complaint against those not following Covid-19-appropriate behaviour with relevant authorities. We will take strict action,” officials said on Monday.
The couple reportedly exchanged vows at the moment the plane flew over the famous Meenakshi Amman temple on its way from Madurai to Bengaluru.
Footage from the flight shows the plane packed with guests as the couple, who are clad in wedding garments, exchanged garlands.
The ceremony, however, comes in the middle of the pandemic, and India has been ravaged by Covid-19.
The country’s overall death toll has passed 300,000 and the country continues to record hundreds of thousands of new cases every day.
No one in the clip seems to be wearing a face mask.
Many people have taken to social media to express their outrage at the recklessness of the newlyweds.
“The couple spent their wedding on a plane and will spend their honeymoon in jail,” commented a sharp observer.
It looks like the couple are in for a bumpy ride.
