Mexico await England after Kane brilliance, African stars head out

By Razeen Gutta

Another exhilarating day of Fifa World Cup football has passed. Harry Kane single-handedly pulled England out of the rubble against DR Congo before Belgium came back from two down to send Senegal packing.

Mexico were 2-0 victors over Ecuador in Wednesday’s early morning game, with Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez on target for the co-hosts.

The Mexicans are yet to concede a goal at the tournament and now have the opportunity of hosting England in the last 16 as their dream continues.

The Three Lions, who looked down and out after an early Brian Cipenga goal put DRC ahead, were saved by their skipper.

Kane netted twice in ten minutes in the final quarter to keep alive his side’s hopes of becoming the first England team to bring home a major trophy since 1966.

Senegal were cruising at 2-0 with five minutes of normal time to play before Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans pulled things back late to force extra time for Belgium.

In the last minute of the extra 30, Tielemans got the winner, breaking Senegalese hearts and booking Belgium a place in the last 16.
