‘Men must give us money without being asked’ – Malaika Mazwai

By Rorisang Modiba

Blogger Musa Khawula shared a video on X of Malaika Mazwai, daughter of musicians Thandiswa Mazwai and Stoan Seate, speaking about what she wants from a man.

The 24-year-old said she wants a man who helps without being asked.

“My problem is, I don’t want a man always talking about ‘my mom, my mom’. I want a man who asks, ‘How much is your rent? How much should I send you? How much money do you need?’ and just gives it without you asking. A man with a good reputation, not these boys – what’s that?”

Her video got many X users posting comments – some agreed and others didn’t.

One user wrote: “They don’t want to adapt to modern times. Feminism fought for independence, but now they still expect men to provide while competing for jobs.”

Another wrote: “Men, raise your children. She’s looking for a ‘stoney ginger’ in every man. Your dad should be paying for your rent.”

Malaika’s mother, Thandiswa Mazwai, is a famous artist. Her 2004 album Zabalaza went double platinum and she recently performed on NBC’s Tiny Desk in the US.

Her father, Stoan Seate, is a kwaito singer, producer, actor, and TV presenter, and a member of Bongo Maffin since 1996.

Scrolla.Africa reached out to Malaika Mazwai for comment but had not received a reply by publication time.
