A former bouncer has exposed brutal attacks on young men at a popular Pretoria nightclub called Zanzou.
Videos leaked on social media on Monday show security staff at Zanzou nightclub in Hatfield beating up young South African men who allegedly didn’t pay their bills.
Pablo, who worked as a bouncer at the club for seven years, says the videos show sexual assault and attempted murder. He claims to have 75 more videos of abuse ready to release, IOL reported.
“The police are investigating several offences, including assault, kidnapping, and crimen injuria,” said National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola.
Pablo says the club’s French owner, Stéphane Cohen, works with Pretoria police to cover up the crimes. He also named Neo Moela, who helped start Homecoming Events, as being involved in crimes at Zanzou and another club called Drama.
The club’s managers say they fired the security staff involved and claim Pablo is trying to extort money from them.
The Department of Justice wants the club closed until they finish looking into what happened.
EFF members protested outside the club, demanding action. “We are here demanding accountability,” one protester wrote on X.
South Africans are now calling for Zanzou and similar clubs, like Babel, to be shut down.
The police chief urged victims to come forward and report cases. Masemola added that showing victims’ faces in the videos breaks laws protecting personal information.
