Popular maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose’s beef with former Ukhozi FM DJ Ngizwe Mchunu is far from over.
The two have been sworn enemies for the past three years when Mchunu was a maskandi show presenter at Ukhozi FM.
Khuzani accused the DJ of sabotaging him by not playing his songs but instead played the songs of his rival, Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele.
Sources said when Khuzani learnt that Mchunu had lost his father last week he sent money to the bereaved family. Khuzani deposited R5,000 into Mchunu’s bank account.
When Mchunu realised Khuzani had transferred money, he became angry and sent the money back.
Mchunu confirmed he had returned the money.
“Khuzani humiliated me by composing a song titled ‘Isiqomuqomu’ about me. In that song he revealed things that were not meant for the public,” Mchunu said.
“I’m waiting for him to come and apologise because I groomed him when he was new in the music industry and even worse he is my homeboy from Nkandla.
“I don’t need his sympathy. I sent back his money. He must keep it,” he said.
Khuzani said he did not send the money to the DJ as an individual but to the family.
“I am aware we don’t see eye to eye on some issues but when there’s a death in the family we need to show compassion,” said Khuzani.
“In Zulu culture we send money and it shows ubuntu. In my case with Ngizwe, it was important to put aside our personal issues.”
Khuzani said he hadn’t checked the bank account to see if he received the money back from Mchunu.
In the ‘Isiqomuqomu’ song from the Inja Nogodo album, Khuzani reveals that Mchunu allegedly betrayed former SA president Jacob Zuma by sidelining him when he was lining up his Gcwalisa Moses Mabhida Maskandi Show in 2019.
Mchunu apparently advised Khuzani to approach current SA president Cyril
Ramaphosa because he was in power while Zuma was irrelevant.
