Newly elected ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula is ready to whip party members into line and make them abide by the party rules and ethics.
Mbalula was speaking after he was elected at the 55th ANC National Conference on Monday.
In the last five years some party leaders have questioned and defied President Cyril Ramaphosa at every opportunity.
In a recent incident, five of the party’s ministers voted for the adoption of the section 89 independent panel’s report on the Phala Phala saga.
Mbalula labelled the behaviour by some of the party members as ‘unANC’, uncouth and ill-disciplined.
“In recent times, we haven’t been running the party like a well oiled machine.”
“We have NEC members attacking the president and contradicting themselves in public and this has affected our membership numbers.”
Under his authority, Mbalula says, there will not be NEC members sharing their opinions in the media about party affairs.
“Under my watch there will be no lawlessness, those who continue with their shenanigans must be ready for me, it’s going to be me and them. I am the commander of bringing discipline,” he added.
The enthusiastic Mbalula who has hit the ground running immediately after the announcement of his election said if it was possible he would resign from the position of the minister of transport and move to his office at the ANC headquarters at Luthuli House.
He reminded the elected NEC members that renewal of the party is sacrosanct for the party’s future.
