- Mbali said she married DJ Black Coffee for love and money, gave up acting to care for him, and now wants half of their R100-million estate.
- The DJ says he already pays a lot — including school fees and security — and disputes her claim for R500,000 a month in maintenance.
Actress Mbali Mlotshwa has opened up about her messy marriage and bitter divorce from DJ Black Coffee.
According to a court judgment, Mbali told the Johannesburg High Court she once begged her uncles to let her marry the DJ — because she loved him and “he was a millionaire”.
That was on the day he paid R70,000 lobola for her.
She said they met on the set of the TV drama Tshisa and later travelled to Greece, where he popped the question.
According to Sunday World, Mbali is in court fighting for a divorce and a 50/50 split of their estate, which she believes is worth more than R100-million.
She also wants R500,000 a month in maintenance for herself and their kids.
Mbali said she deserved the money because she was used to a luxury lifestyle — overseas shopping sprees and all. She also said her acting career was held back because the DJ didn’t want her doing kissing scenes and expected her to stay home and take care of him.
“He wasn’t comfortable with me kissing other men on set,” she said. She added that she often put her career on pause to cook, dress him, and massage his injured hand.
She also dropped a bombshell: she claimed he cheated and fathered kids outside their marriage.
Black Coffee didn’t deny that the marriage had collapsed but said her millionaire comments likely came from the time he bought her a car after she fell pregnant.
He told the court he already pays R50,000 a month, covers school fees — including R300,000 and R1-million for two of their children’s education — and forks out R48,000 for security at her house.
The judge confirmed both agreed the marriage was over — bringing one of Mzansi’s most talked-about celeb unions to a bitter end.
