- The mayor says the opposition is focused on theatre while she works to fix the metro under difficult conditions.
- Lobishe claims her recent re-election by the ANC is the only vote of confidence that actually matters right now.
Mayor Babalwa Lobishe is not interested in the DA’s homework.
The opposition party gave her a failing grade for her first 100 days in office earlier this week. They claim she scored a shocking 0.5 out of 5.
They say she failed to reach 63 of her 85 targets.
But Lobishe says the report card is rubbish.
She calls the claims “baseless, opportunistic, and wholly inaccurate”.
The mayor says the DA is playing political games instead of sticking to the facts.
“They continue to prioritise political theatrics,” she said.
Lobishe argues that the opposition ignored the steady progress made under difficult conditions. She says their scorecard is not based on any official rules used to judge municipalities.
She believes the only vote that counts came from her own party.
The ANC regional conference recently gave her a fresh mandate to lead.
“To me, that’s a real vote of confidence,” she said.
The fight over marks comes just days after the national government stepped in to help.
Deputy Minister Zolile Williams presented a Section 154 support plan to help fix the metro.
Lobishe is asking residents to ignore the noise and support her efforts to fix the city and bring back investors.
