  • The shooting occurred over the weekend in Windsor, Johannesburg, during an anti-drug operation involving ActionSA mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo.
  • The EFF accused ActionSA of using deadly force for political gain and called the operation shallow, irresponsible Trump style politics.

A man was shot and killed after an anti-drug operation in Windsor, Johannesburg. The national was shot over the weekend. ActionSA confirmed his death on Sunday, 9 February.

The party’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, councillor Xolani Khumalo, took part in the operation.

ActionSA says the operation was lawful and community based. The man was suspected of drug trafficking.

In a statement, Khumalo says ActionSA supports “every decisive and lawful measure” to deal with drugs and violent crime.

He says criminals have become comfortable believing they cannot be touched.

ActionSA has a ten point plan to fix Ekurhuleni. The plan focuses on law enforcement, safety, specialised units, crime mapping technology and reskilling Community Policing Forums.

The EFF strongly rejects this approach.

EFF spokesperson Sinawo Tambo calls it “shallow and irresponsible Trump style politics”.

Tambo accuses ActionSA of turning fear into a campaign tool. He says suspects are now being killed to prove political toughness, with voters expected to cheer.

He warns this sets a dangerous standard where success is measured by dead bodies instead of governance and policy.

The EFF says ActionSA previously used the death of DJ Warras in Johannesburg to launch a campaign. The party claims the same pattern is now playing out in Ekurhuleni.

Supporters of Khumalo argue his direct involvement shows leadership where police have struggled to control drugs and crime.

Police have not released an official statement on the Windsor shooting.
