Maestro Giroud bangs in four goals to secure top spot for Chelsea

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud scored four sensational goals and helped the Blues to thump Sevilla 4-0 on Wednesday night at Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in Spain.

The Frenchman also scored the winner last week as Chelsea sealed their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. The star produced a masterclass performance to secure Group E top spot.

It was an excellent start for the Blues, when Kai Havertz picked out Giroud who turned and slotted the ball into the left of the net.

In the 54th minute, Giroud chipped the ball over the Sevilla goalkeeper for his brace – a great finish after being put through by Mateo Kovacic.

Frenchman Ngolo Kante combined with Giroud to give the striker a hattrick. The midfielder picked out his compatriot with a brilliant cross – Giroud timed his run perfectly and headed in for his third.

Giroud stepped up and converted from the penalty spot after being tripped in the box.

“Another great team performance by the team. Obviously I am very proud to score four goals thanks to my teammates,” said Giroud.

In Group G, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 750th career goal for his club and country when Juventus beat Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev 3-0 to finish second behind Barcelona.

Juventus will play Barcelona next Tuesday in the last match of the Champions League group stage at Nou Camp. Christiano Ronaldo missed the first leg defeat after testing positive for Covid-19.
