All workers who’ve lost income, even if they’re not registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund, can now apply for special Covid-19 pay-outs during lockdown.
The new rules allow anyone who has lost income or been forced to take leave during lockdown to apply for benefits from the Temporary Employer Relief Scheme (TERS).
TERS is a UIF benefit. Until this week many workers were not eligible for it because employers had not registered them for UIF.
The minimum paid by TERS is R3,500 a month during lockdown.
