Australia and England set up a mouthwatering last four Fifa Women’s World Cup clash after picking up quarter final wins on Saturday.
An evenly contested affair in Brisbane saw the hosts go up against France, with nothing separating the sides after 120 minutes.
The match was balanced from passes to possession, with 20 penalties required to separate the sides.
Ultimately it would be Cortnee Vine to win it from the spot, with the 25-year-old forward leaving the home crowd elated as the Matildas progressed to their first ever World Cup semi-final.
In the late game, England came out 2-1 victors over Columbia, with Alessia Russo slotting home a decisive strike to keep the Lionesses’ World Cup dream alive.
England kept more of the ball and looked more clinical in front of goal, with Lauren Hemp equalising before just break after Leicy Santos put the Columbians in front moments prior.
After the hour mark, the comeback was complete, and it will not be a third consecutive World Cup semi-final for England — with the dream of a first ever final well and truly on the cards.
In a friendly back in April, the Matildas became the only side to beat England under Sarina Wiegman. That stat still remains today, but will it continue when the sides meet up again for a place in the final?
